Take a Seat at Elder Hall this Valentine's Day
Love written in the notes...
Elder Conservatorium Alumni Elsabeth and David are just one of the many love stories that began at Elder Hall, having met at a lunchtime concert.
David writes: 'I had been writing program notes for Elder Hall concerts, but when I started my PhD in 2015 I didn't have time for that any more. A few months later, I went to an Elder Hall lunchtime concert and read the program notes, written by a certain "Elsabeth Parkinson", and was very impressed - she wrote better than I did! I'd never met her, but I figured she must be a music student, so I sent an email to her uni email address telling her that I really liked her writing, and encouraging her to keep up the good work in the job I used to have.
It took a few more years for us to actually properly meet and talk, and that was at Elder Hall too. I went to a Friday lunchtime concert with a friend, Thea, and just as it began, Elsabeth showed up... and it turned out that Thea was friends with Elsabeth too, so we finally got properly introduced to each other, and then sat together to enjoy 50 minutes of beautiful music (it was some Bach chamber music, I remember). After the concert, Thea left, but Elsabeth and I realised we both had some free time and hadn't eaten lunch yet, so we went off to Rundle Mall and bought lunch together... and we have been married since April 2019.'

Grand plan for Elder Hall grand piano...
Singer-songwriter, Nico Wyatt-Smith, knew he wanted to propose in an intimate and unique way.
A romantic at heart, he had written love songs for his girlfriend Diana and played them at home on their anniversaries, but he felt popping the question called for something more special, something grander.
鈥淲hen I saw the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide鈥檚 Elder Hall and the sheer size of it, I thought I would check if it was available for hire. I liked the idea of a huge hall just for two people.鈥 Nico said.
On Saturday 18 December 2021, Nico proposed by singing and playing to Diana on Elder Hall鈥檚 grand piano 鈥淎ll I need is you鈥, a song that he wrote for her after a trip to his hometown of Sydney where he shared with family and friends his plans to make Diana his wife. Happily Diana said 鈥榶es鈥 and now theirs is another love story forever entwined with the history of Elder Hall.
