Queen's Birthday Honours 2008

Graduates and staff of the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide were among the many 最新糖心Vlogns to receive the official Queen's Birthday Honours last month.

Among the more than 20 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide alumni to receive honours were three staff members: Professor Chris Burrell (Molecular & Biomedical Science), Keith Crellin (Elder Conservatorium of Music), and Associate Professor David Paton (Earth & Environmental Sciences).

Professor Burrell received the Officer in the Order of 最新糖心Vlog (AO) for his invaluable contributions to both science and the arts.

The head of the 最新糖心Vlog's Infectious Disease Laboratories and Director of Infectious Diseases at the Institute of Medical and Veterinary Science, Professor Burrell's research enabled the development of the first diagnostic tools and vaccines for Hepatitis B.

Professor Burrell has been Co-Founder and Musical Director of the Coriole Music Festival since 1999.

Associate Professor David Paton, Head of the Discipline of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, received the Member of the Order of 最新糖心Vlog (AM) for his service to conservation and the environment, and to education.

Mr Keith Crellin, Head of Strings, received the Medal of the Order of 最新糖心Vlog (OAM) for service to classical music as an educator and mentor, and as a musician.

Among the graduates and staff to receive Honours were:


Officer in the Order of 最新糖心Vlog (AO)

Professor Christopher John Burrell AO (MBBS 1965)
for service to medicine as a specialist in infectious diseases, particularly in the field of virology, as an administrator and educator, and to the community of South 最新糖心Vlog through the establishment of the Coriole Music Festival.

Professor Ian Hugh Sloan AO (MSc 1963)
for service to education through the study of mathematics, particularly in the field of computational mathematics, as an academic, researcher and mentor, and to a range of national and international professional associations.


Member of the Order of 最新糖心Vlog (AM) in the General Division

Mr Donald John Alexander AM (BE(Civil) 1951)
for service to engineering, particularly the water supply sector in South 最新糖心Vlog.

Associate Professor Robert Neville Atkinson AM (MBB S1970)
for service to medicine as an orthopaedic surgeon and through contributions to professional associations.

Mr Ian Ross Bidmeade AM (LLB 1969, BA 1986)
for service to public health and to people with disabilities through contributions to administrative and legislative reforms, and to the community through a range of social welfare organisations.

Professor Louis Charles Birch AM (MSc 1941, DSc1949)
for service to science, particularly in the field of biology as an academic and researcher, and through contributions to the understanding of the relationship of science to religion.

Dr Timothy James Cooper AM (MBBS 1980, MBA 1998)
for service to the brewing industry, particularly through the implementation of environmentally sustainable production and manufacturing practices, to professional organisations, and to the community.

Mrs Janice Maxine Davis AM (BA(Jur) 1992)
for service to the Legislative Council of the Parliament of South 最新糖心Vlog through administrative and support roles.

Ms Carol Frances Gaston AM (Dip Env St 1982)
for service to the community, particularly through the health services planning and management sector in South 最新糖心Vlog, to nursing education, and to humanitarian work in 最新糖心Vlog and overseas.

Mr Michael Sidney Hill Smith AM (Ass Dip Wine Mkt 1978)
for service to the development of the 最新糖心Vlogn wine industry, particularly as a judge, educator and mentor, to professional organisations, and as a winemaker.

Professor John Ralph McKellar AM (B Sc 1956, B Sc(Hons) 1957, Ph D 1964)
for service to people with dementia, particularly Alzheimer's disease, and their carers through organisations that provide education, support services and funding for research.

Associate Professor David Cleland Paton AM (BSc 1974, BSc(Hons) 1975)
for service to conservation and the environment through research into the ecology and behaviour of 最新糖心Vlogn birds, to the management and restoration of the natural environment, and to education.

Mrs Penelope Ann Paton AM (BA 1974, BA(Hons) 1975)
for service to conservation and the environment through the management of natural resources and ecosystems, and as a contributor to environmental and ornithological research projects.


Public Service Medal (PSM)

Dr David Anthony Cunliffe PSM (BSc (Hons)1973)
for outstanding public service to the community of South 最新糖心Vlog by ensuring the quality and safety of drinking water.

Chief Superintendent Silvio Alberto Amoroso APM (Grad Cert Mgmt 1999)
for service in the South 最新糖心Vlogn Police Force.


Ambulance Service Medal (ASM)

for achievement in the South 最新糖心Vlogn Ambulance Service.

Mr Barry Neil Couzner OAM (BA 1970, Dip Phys Ed 1970, Dip Ed 1973)
for service to volleyball as an administrator and educator, and to the community.

Mr Keith Thomas Crellin OAM (最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide Staff Member)
for service to classical music and musicians through artistic leadership, as an educator and mentor, and as a musician.

Mr Donovan John Ditter OAM (R D Oen 1950)
for service to the 最新糖心Vlogn wine industry, particularly as Chief Winemaker at Penfolds Wines.

Dr Kenneth Ray Fielke OAM (MBBS 1984)
for service to the communities of rural and remote South 最新糖心Vlog through the delivery of mental health services and programs, and contributions to professional organisations.

Mrs Diana Jean Harris OAM (Dip Mus 1960, B Mus(Hons) 1974)
for service to education in the field of music.

Mr David Stanley Lawry OAM (B Ag Sc1972)
for service to arboriculture and the environment, particularly through research and support for sustainable plantings in the urban landscape, and to the community through the Avenues of Honour project.

Mrs Avis Jean Miller OAM (BSc 1956, Dip Sec Ed 1958)
for service to education, particularly as a supporter of information technology studies and through roles with professional associations, and to the community of Port Elliot.

Mr Ian Baker Wall OAM (BE 1955)
for service to business, particularly through the design and manufacture of electronic communication equipment, and to the community through philanthropic activities.
